Grilled Matcha Mochi
Sweet, warm, crispy, and chewy, these matcha mochi are a perfect healthy vegan snack. Filled with sweet red bean paste and grilled to perfection, they bring the taste of traditional Japanese treats right to your home.
Instructions
- 1
Combine the mochiko (1 cup) and matcha powder (1 tsp) in a large bowl.
- 2
Stir or whisk well to combine.
- 3
Gradually add [0.75-1 cup water] little by little while stirring until the flour forms a dough. If it becomes too runny, add more [mochiko].
- 4
Sprinkle some [mochiko] onto your counter, then transfer the dough onto it and knead a bit.
- 5
Form the dough into a long, thin shape, then divide it into 8-12 equal parts and form each into a ball.
- 6
To fill each mochi, place a dough ball into your floured palm, flatten it, and place about red bean paste (1 tbsp) into the center.
- 7
Gently manipulate the dough around the [red bean paste] to fully encase it. Flatten the filled mochi to about inch (0.5) thick and set aside. Repeat for the remaining dough.
- 8
Heat and grease a grill, grill pan, or skillet over medium heat.
- 9
Place the mochi onto the grill and cook each side for [4-5 minutes], until crispy and slightly browned.
- 10
Transfer the cooked mochi to a plate and serve hot.
