Crispy Tofu

This simple recipe yields perfectly crispy tofu using just three ingredients. By pressing the tofu and coating it in savory tamari and nutritional yeast, you create a satisfying texture and deep umami flavor without any oil. It is an ideal protein staple for bowls and salads.

Instructions

    Preheat the oven to 425F. Drain the extra-firm tofu (1 block) and press as much liquid out as possible using a tofu press or clean dish towel.

    Cut the dry tofu into even bite-sized cubes. In a large bowl, gently toss the cubes with tamari (1 tbsp) until evenly coated.

    Add nutritional yeast (2 tbsp) to the bowl and gently mix until the cubes are fully coated with the flakes.

    Transfer cubes to a baking sheet lined with a silicone mat. Bake on the top rack for 20 minutes.

    Carefully flip the cubes and bake for an additional 20 to 30 minutes until very crispy. Let cool slightly before serving.
