Crispy Bang Bang Cauliflower
These crispy, sweet, and spicy cauliflower wings are coated in a creamy, flavorful mayo sauce. This easy-to-make dish can be prepared in either an oven or an air fryer, offering a phenomenal taste experience.
Instructions
- 1
Mix all the sauce ingredients: vegan mayonnaise (0.5 cup), sambal oelek (0.25 cup), and maple syrup (2 tbsp) together in a bowl until liquid-y. Set aside.
- 2
Preheat oven to 230 degrees C (450 F). Line a baking sheet with a silicone baking mat or greased foil. Chop cauliflower (1 head) into florets, discarding leaves and stems.
- 3
In a bowl, combine all-purpose flour (0.75 cup), sambal oelek (1 tbsp), cornstarch (0.5 cup), unsweetened almond milk (0.75 cup), lemon juice (2 tsp), sea salt (0.5 tsp), ground black pepper (0.5 tsp), garlic powder (1 tsp) and onion powder (0.5 tsp). Stir until the batter is a sticky, tempura-like consistency. Thin with more milk if too thick.
- 4
Place crispy panko breadcrumbs (1 cup) in a separate bowl next to the batter. Toss the [cauliflower] florets in the batter mixture to fully coat. Transfer the coated florets to the [crispy panko breadcrumbs] in batches, coating completely. Place them onto the prepared baking sheet, ensuring even spacing.
- 5
Bake the cauliflower for 22 minutes, ensuring the oven is fully preheated.
- 6
Remove from the oven. Toss the baked [cauliflower] in the prepared sauce to coat evenly. Return them to the baking sheet and bake for another 1-2 minutes to allow the sauce to soak in.
- 7
Remove from oven, top with [sesame seeds], and serve immediately. Enjoy!
- 8
For air fryer: Preheat to 200 degrees C (400 F).
- 9
Follow coating steps. Place battered florets in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook for 12-15 minutes, shaking halfway through. After adding sauce, air fry for another 1-2 minutes.
