In a saucepan off the heat, combine plant milk (2 cup), cornstarch (0.5 cup), sugar (0.33 cup), turmeric powder (0.125 tsp), vanilla extract (1 tsp), and lemon peel (0.5 slice). Whisk until the mixture is smooth and the cornstarch is completely dissolved.

Whisk the mixture continuously over medium heat for 5 minutes until the liquid thickens into a velvety, creamy custard.

Once the desired consistency is almost reached, remove the pan from the heat and discard the lemon peel (0.5 slice).
